A Word on Worthiness

Have you ever known anyone like this: the person who’s sure to show and tell of their catalog of accomplishments?

We may sometimes forget that these super people, too, have had some pain to work through, maybe had someone helping them along the way. We may think on our own history and be tempted to forget: while we’ve had valleys, we, too, have our own successes.

In out moments of self doubt, when we again focus on how are making progress on our goals, we can’t see our worth. And if we can’t see our own, how much less do we see others? If we knew what others had gone through to get all their gold stars, would we recognize their worth?

Crazy me thinking here… “No, probably not. Because if I can’t find anything of value in myself, how could I find it in her? If we are to love others as we love ourselves, what happens when there is no self love? When there is nothing in me that is worthy of love?”

Enter silence followed by clarity (my actual logical, reasonable, truth-believing self): “Are you saying what God made is worthless?”

“No, well…” (crazy me again)

“Have you looked at the sky? Do you see what is out there? If God made galaxies, why would He waste time on something that was worthless.”

Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

Psalm 139:16
